Chapter 25

I don’t own Chuck

They were sitting on the porch waiting as Casey pulled up in front of the cabin. “Anyone follow you?” Sarah asked as he got out of the car.

“Come on, Walker. It’s me,” Casey told her. He stopped. He looked at her, then to Chuck, then back to Sarah. “Christ,” he muttered. “Is there coffee in the kitchen?”

Chuck pulled out a thermos and pitched it to him. “We had it ready for you.” Casey grunted. “Figured you’d want to see everything and get to work.”

“At least your damn head is finally working right,” Casey muttered.

“Still haven’t flashed,” Chuck told Casey.

Casey gave him a look and shook his head. “Who said a damn thing the Intersect, numb-nuts?” Casey muttered, walking away.

“Are they?” Sarah asked softly. Chuck gave her a confused look. “Your nuts?” Chuck’s eyes went wide and she winked at him. She stood up and followed Casey.

“This is gonna be so much fun,” Chuck muttered.

Chuck quickly recovered, grabbed the file folder, and joined the two. He began to lead Casey around the property, showing him things. He led them toward the back, pointing out the nearly invisible cameras that were posted around the backside of the property, near the back road.

Casey watched Chuck, impressed. Casey glanced at Sarah, who grinned and shrugged. “That’s where I’m thinking they come for us,” Chuck said, pointing to the spot where Susan and Peter had been photographed by the surveillance cameras. “That road leads to a service road to the base.”

“And its security is run by a private security firm?” Casey asked. Chuck nodded. Casey snorted. “You have to give it to them, these Fulcrum assholes know how to play dirty and make it look clean.”

“How would you do it, if it were you, Casey?” Chuck asked. Casey turned to him. “I mean, you have the most experience where it comes to military maneuvers.”

“I would do exactly what you laid out,” Casey replied. He pointed to a clearing off the side of the road. “I set up base camp there. Being who they are, they could close this road, no questions asked.” He pulled the pack he had off of his back, and rummaged around in it for a moment. He pulled out a small cylinder and walked to the clearing.

“What’s he doing?” Chuck asked.

“Looking for the best vantage point,” Sarah told him. Chuck watched Casey take the small object, extend it and look through it. He slowly turned until Chuck saw him grin. Chuck followed Casey’s line of sight and saw a cliff. “That’s good,” Sarah said nodding.

“If I take position there, I can take out one or two,” Casey told him.

“How many do you think there will be?” Chuck asked.

“Eight to twelve,” Casey replied. “The question is who do I take out.”

“The leader,” Chuck answered. Casey gave him a surprised look. “It creates the most chaos.”

“Kid, when I say take out…” Casey trailed off.

“They’re coming to take me and probably kill Sarah,” Chuck answered. “This isn’t us breaking in somewhere, and guys doing there jobs. These are men coming to kill her, and make my life a living hell.”

“Kid,” Casey began again.

“I don’t like it, Casey,” Chuck admitted. “But what choice do we have.”

“Solid copy,” Casey replied. “I can probably get three or four guys here that I know. They’re retired, but I know they’re solid and we don’t have to worry about them turning on us, unlike the wedding.”

“Sounds good,” Chuck said, nodding. “Would it help if I could kill their communications?” Casey grinned.

Now

Susan looked uncomfortable. “You okay, Susan?” Chuck asked.

“The baby was having some teething problems,” Susan answered. “I’m just concerned.”

“Well, feel free to make a call,” Chuck told her, lying his napkin on the table and sitting back.

Susan gave him a grateful smile, pulled out her phone and tried to send a text. “There doesn’t seem to be any service,” she muttered.

“Weird things always happening here,” Chuck told her. “Could be those USOs in the lake.”

Susan looked at Chuck like he had grown a second and a third head. “I’m sorry, what?”

“You know, those USOs,” Sarah told her. Susan gave Sarah a look. “What?”

“You told him where you hid him?” Susan asked, surprised.

“I don’t know why you’re surprised,” Chuck said calmly. “You asked to meet me, it’s not like you’ve been following protocol.” Susan slowly turned her attention to Chuck. “I wasn’t supposed to mention that was I?”

“No, baby, you weren’t,” Sarah said, lying her hand on his.

“Baby?” Chuck asked, grinning, staring into Sarah’s eyes.

The sound of a gun being cocked brought both of their attention back to Susan. “So, I guess you figured it all out.”

“Yeah,” Chuck replied. “We did.”

Then

“How much time do you need?” Chuck asked Casey.

“Week, ten days,” Casey answered. “You sure about this, Bartowski?”

“No,” Chuck replied. Casey stared at him. “This may absolutely fall apart, but what good am I doing anyone constantly being on the run? What good are we constantly playing defense?”

Casey looked around. “Hell of a place to make a last stand.”

“No, it’s not a last stand,” Chuck told him. “If that’s what you think it is, then we do something else.”

“No, Bartowski,” Casey said shaking his head. “You’re right. This is no way to live…not for you. For me, heh, it would be fine, but for you…” Casey shook his head again.

“Thanks, Casey,” Chuck clapping the older man on the shoulder. “Now, I just hope we don’t lose anyone.”

Now

“So how’s this going to go?” Chuck asked.

“You just made me a lot of money,” Susan told Chuck. “The search was over for you.”

“Oh, got tired of looking?” Chuck asked.

“No, no one in Fulcrum thinks you have the Intersect,” Susan said with a shrug. “The only person that does is the lead agent on this mission.”

“Huh,” Chuck replied. That’s when they all heard the gun go off.
